Students:

Interested in aerospace and overcoming challenges no one has ever faced before? Join us on our journey to the stars! We are accepting of ALL students regardless of major or skillset, as we believe space is for everyone. Develop highly applicable aerospace experience and skills working with an incredibly talented team devoted to building aerospace in Kentucky.

Outreach:

Interested in inspiring your students to pursue a career in STEM? We have several demonstrations and activities geared towards all ages.  If you are interested in having any of these activities or have other event ideas please contact us at our email at spacelexky@gmail.com.

K-3rd Grade

Our straw rocket activity teaches young students about the basics of cause, effect, and optimization.  Students are given a colored straw and a template to cut out fins from cardstock.  The students have the choice to change the length of the rocket, the shape and size of the fins, the nose cone, and name their rocket.  These are launched with an air launcher.  Students can see how making changes to the rocket can affect its speed and how far it travels.  Good indoor activity and difficulty can be adjusted for various age groups.

4th-8th Grade

For older students we can help support building low power rocket kits while providing real world discussion on how each component fits into a larger rocket design.  These are A-D class motor kits and can be launched at a local park or open grass field (roughly 100 feet wide).  These kits require more skill than the straw rocket activity but are mostly snap together components.  Our members are able to answer questions about rocketry, aerospace, and STEM.

High School/Other

For our high school students we can help through the process of building larger model rockets, either low powered (can be launched at a park/school site) or an L1 high powered rocket (must be launched at the official NAR site in Elizabethtown, Ky).  Our students can provide more advanced discussion of STEM concepts and aerospace engineering, as well share their experiences working for companies like SpaceX, Relativity, and Space Tango.

Organizations:

Whether another student organization or an established company, we enjoy working with others to fuel the growth of aerospace in Kentucky. Need an experimental payload launched up to a 1 mile altitude?  We can integrate your scientific payload or design into our rockets to provide data collection and testing.  For inquiries please message us at our email address spacelexky@gmail.com.
